Welcome to the North East Group
If you wish to be included in discussions on the listserv that will shape the proposal, please send an email to NortheastBDHub@columbia.edu.
Proposal Writing
We are using the BDHub Portal as a public place for constructing the proposal. You can access the proposal, which can be edited by everyone, here. Right now the proposal contains an outline with page counts assigned to each section. Within these sections are listed the people responsible for creating the draft, as well as questions to consider. You may make comments in a section or on individual questions, but we ask that you do not write or delete directly within the document. Please preface any comments with YOUR NAME. We will be accumulating your input from the BDHub in weekly passes, editing, and posting updated versions to the proposal page for more comments.
Task Forces
We have several task forces working on sections of the proposal. If you would like to join one of those, you can send email to the contact email specified on that section of the proposal. Each task force will have discussion and produce 1-2 pages for the proposal itself. The task forces are:
Data Sharing: Sam Madden, MIT (to participate, please send an email to madden@csail.mit.edu)
Education: Jim Hendler, RPI (to participate, please send an email to hendler@cs.rpi.edu)
Health: George Hripscak, Columbia; Zak Kohane, Harvard; Nabil Adam, Rutgers; Greg Cooper, Pittsburgh (to participate, please send email to Hripscak@columbia.edu)
Energy: Abani Patra, SUNY Buffalo (to participate, please send an email to abani@buffalo.edu)
Hub Organization: Kathy McKeown, Columbia; Andrew McCallum, UMass; Howard Wactlar, CMU; Carla Brodley, Northeastern; Vasant Honavar, Penn State; Michael Kearns, UPenn (This is a small group dedicated to the writing of the proposal. We will have larger community meetings regarding the proposal every two weeks.)
I hope to have task forces on urbanization and finance as well.
Partnerships
Finally, we have groups working on getting local industry and government partners. Sharon Sputz (ssputz@columbia.edu) is coordinating these groups so that we can get similar collaboration letters and can provide similar email requests. These groups so far include Massachusetts (Andrew McCallum), Pennsylvania (Howard Wactlar), New Jersey (Nabil Adam), and New York (Sharon Sputz). If you are in one of the other states and are willing to do outreach for your state, let us know at NortheastBDHub@columbia.edu.
To get as much input as possible from the widest range of people, we will be posting questions for discussion on the listserv and taking your input from the proposal.
Thank you for your interest and contributions!
Kathy McKeown
